Abstract
Statement of the Problem: Patients with transfemoral coronary angiography may have complications such as oozing, bleeding, ecchymosis, hematoma, and back discomfort. Therefore, necessary to guide nursing practice towards patient safety in post-procedure position and ambulation. The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of bed rest with position change versus early ambulation on post-transfemoral coronary angiography complications in cardiac patients. Methodology: A quasi-experimental research design has been used to conduct this study at the Coronary Care Unit of the selected university hospital in Egypt. A convenience sample of 185 patients within 6 hours post transfemoral coronary angiography was included and randomly assigned to two groups: group 1 included 92 patients and received position changes and back massage and group 2 included 93 patients and received early ambulation after 3 hours. The used tool was "Post Transfemoral Coronary Angiography Complication Assessment". Findings: Results have indicated that dangerous complications such as bleeding, ecchymosis, and hematoma decreased significantly (P<0.05) in group 1. Conclusion: position changes and back massage within 6 hours post transfemoral coronary angiography have exposed patients to fewer complications. Recommendations: critical care nurses should assess patients for developing complications post transfemoral coronary angiography and use bed rest with position change safely within 6 hours post transfemoral coronary angiography.
