Abstract
The current economic, social, political and natural systems are in crisis, whether related to Covid – 19, biodiversity or climate change, we are all in it together. However, as Karl Marx already noted in his time, we have been alienating ourselves from things as well as from ourselves and each other through the capitalist system (Crotty, 2003, pp. 121-122). As such, we have to re-connect with things, each other, and nature again, in order to restore the relationship with those systems and ourselves on a short- and long-term basis. However, over the last decades, it seems to be difficult to operationalize the notion of sustainable development into clear policies, especially related to its values and ethics.
