Singapore is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Singapore. It is located on the island of Singapore's southern tip. Its strategic location on the strait connecting the Indian and South China Seas, combined with its deepwater harbour, has made it Southeast Asia's largest port and one of the world's most important commercial centres. The city, which was formerly a separate entity, grew to dominate the island to the point where the Republic of Singapore effectively became a city-state.
Singapore, dubbed "Lion City" or "Garden City" for its many parks and tree-lined streets, has also been dubbed "instant Asia" since it provides visitors with a quick glance of the cultures brought to the country by immigrants from all across Asia. It is primarily Chinese, but there are significant minority of Malays and Indians.
