Session 1: Metabolomics and Genomics
Metabolomics refers to the systematic identification and quantification of the small molecule metabolic products (the metabolome) of a biological system (cell, tissue, organ, biological fluid, or organism) at a specific point in time. Mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy are the techniques most often used for metabolome profiling.

Metabolomics aims at the comprehensive quantitative analysis of all metabolites in a biological system, as well as their dynamics, composition, interactions, and responses to interventions or a specific physiological state. Unlike most compound-specific analyses of traditional clinical chemistry, metabolomics systematically permits studies of the metabolome, and offers deeper insights into deciphering biological processes.

A xenobiotic is a synthetic foreign substance present in a living being which is not ordinarily normally created or exhibit inside the life form. Chemicals that are foreign to the biosphere are known as xenobiotic compounds. In particular, medications, for example, antibiotics are xenobiotics in humans because the human body does not deliver them itself, nor they part of a normal food.

Session 7: Analytical Platforms in Metabolomics
The present importance of metabolomics to go inside the unsolved secrets of living organisms, as a single discipline or together with other omics, has opened interest in analytical platforms to obtain proper metabolomic information. The steps involved in developing these platforms (viz sampling, sample storage, sample preparation, individual metabolites separation, if required, and detection) are critically discussed as a function of the type of organism under study, the type of sample, and the families of metabolites to be analyzed. An overview of the fundamentals of key equipment in metabolomics, such as that based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry or mass spectrometry (MS), is also given for better understanding of its usefulness in this discipline.
