Statement of the Problem: Healthcare facilities are closing and or filing bankruptcy at a rapid rate. This has become an alarming issue here in the US and perhaps in other countries as well. Based on the North Carolina Rural Health Research Program, 102 healthcare facilities have closed since Jan 1, 2010 until current. This is a dilemma to our communities, leaving patients without access to general, short-term, acute, and inpatient care, or having to drive miles to receive treatment. While this issue is published, we don’t think there’s an in-depth understanding as to the effect of our communities. When a mother wakes up in the middle of the night and must drive her ailing child 30 miles to an ER this is an issue, or when a grandfather has a stroke and paramedics has a 30-mile drive before reaching a healthcare facility, this is an issue. Based on research transport time prior to a hospital closure was 14.2 minutes, one minutes slower than the mean time for all calls, the transport time increased to 25.1 minute after the hospital closed, a statistically significant increase of 10.9 minutes or a 76.4% increase. In urban zip codes there were no changes in transport times. It’s a rising issue in our communities based on the graph we need additional healthcare resources in our communities not closing hospitals. There
