City Highlights

About City

Paris is the capital and most populous city of France, with an area of 105 square kilometres (41 square miles) and a population of 2,206,488. Located in the north of France on the river Seine, Paris has the well deserved reputation of being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities, brimming with historic associations and remaining vastly influential in the realms of culture, art, fashion, food and design. Paris is often referred to as The City of Light, both because of its leading role during the Age of Enlightenment, and more literally because Paris was one of the first European cities to adopt gas street lighting. Paris is especially known for its museums and architectural landmarks: the Louvre was the most visited art museum in the world. The city has the second highest number of Michelin restaurants in the world and contains numerous iconic landmarks, such as the world's most visited tourist site the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, Moulin Rouge, and Lido, making it the most popular tourist destination in the world with 45 million tourists annually. March is a wonderful time of the year to visit Paris. Spring is slowly coming to France, the days are getting longer and the city is slowly coming out of its hibernation. Spring is the perfect time to take trips from the City of Lights as there are fewer tourists around, and yet everything is open once more.
